Ryan leads Risk Frontiers and has expertise in the development of catastrophe loss models, quantitative risk analysis and physical climate risk solutions. He has extensive hands-on experience in assessing the impacts of natural hazards on Australian communities.
Ryan oversees and provides strategic advice in the development of Risk Frontiers’ products, data solutions and services. During his more than 20 years at Risk Frontiers, he has been involved in a wide variety of projects across the (re)insurance, (re)insurance broker, banking, energy, infrastructure, airline and real estate industries, as well as philanthropic foundations and government and non-government organisations.
His research background is in natural disaster losses and climate change including the application of insurance modelling tools to climate change adaptation decision-making relating to the built environment.
Ryan has appeared at Royal Commission and Senate Committee Inquiries as a subject matter expert and contributed to Risk Frontiers’ submissions to several other Government Inquiries relating to natural disasters. He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the industry-led Climate Measurements Standards Initiative (CMSI) in Australia and is the author of numerous scientific and industry publications.
Ryan has a BSc (Advanced Mathematics), Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and a PhD in Natural Hazards from Macquarie University.
