Matalena is a Senior Associate at Risk Frontiers specialising in social science and human geography research. She has experience in conducting qualitative research, including open and semi-structured interviews, participatory methods, and policy analysis. She completed her PhD in human geography at Macquarie University, Sydney. Matalena’s research interests include collaborative and participatory approaches, community and youth-based disaster risk reduction, resilience, and social network analysis.
Matalena joined Risk Frontiers from the North Australia Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance in Darwin, where she worked with remote Indigenous communities on projects related to land and sea management and education pathways.
