Avianto Amri is a PhD student with more than 10 years’ experience in managing emergency responses in many countries in Asia. He is currently researching on empowering children as change agents in building resilience in their communities. He is also a Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC student.
Avianto specialises in disaster response, disaster risk reduction and child-centred risk reduction. He has extensive experience working in natural hazards and major disasters across Asia, including earthquakes, volcano eruptions and extreme weather events, such as floods and typhoons. Avianto’s work has taken him to Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan and Haiti.
Avianto has worked as a consultant with clients including the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance, the European Union, Mercy Corps, Save the Children and Plan International, where he founded the ASEAN Safe School Initiative.
