A new report on natural hazard fatalities has been produced by Risk Frontiers, which undertook the project, “An analysis of human fatalities and building losses from natural disasters in Australia” for the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC (BNHCRC). The BNHCRC is conducting end-user driven research to improve disaster resilience and reduce the human, social, economic and environmental costs from natural hazards. This new report is the second deliverable of this important project aimed at providing an evidence base for future emergency management policy, practice and resource allocation and enabling efficient and strategic risk reduction strategies. The current focus was to measure and gain a greater understanding of the impacts of tropical cyclones, earthquakes and severe storms in terms of the toll of human life.
